Free one to one help provided by students at Ardingly College: to choose your phone, tablet or laptop, if you don’t have one; Or bring your own and have help accessing the internet, shopping on line, sending emails, keeping in touch with friends and family via skype, Facebook and WhatsApp and; much, much more!

The Computer Help Desk has now been in operation for more than a year. Originally it was set up to assist people to get on to the Internet, however, it has now expanded to cover many software packages. It began with two Digital Champions and now has four which enables the coverage of a larger range of equipment and problems. During the last few months we have helped with desktop, laptop, tablets and smartphones. This has also required us to assist with Windows and IOS operating systems including many different apps.
People we have seen have a wide range of expertise, but the majority are relatively new to computing and may require help to get online. We have found that it is better to see a person several weeks running rather than trying to cover too much in one go. The Walk-In works on a ‘first come first served’ basis which can cause problems if too many people require help at any one time – but we do our best to help everybody – even if it has to be the following week. Infrequently, we do also visit a person at home, but only if they have a mobility problem or if the equipment can’t be brought to the Spire Cafe (eg Routers, Printers etc), These visits are always attended by a man and woman team.
