See the Past events page for more information.
It couldn’t be a more exciting time to join MSOPC – a local and growing charity, set up, managed and run by older people, all volunteers, for the benefit of Mid Sussex older people.
We are currently looking for more volunteers;-
Management Committee members – ideally people living in Mid Sussex who enjoy working together to plan and deliver MSOPC’s strategy and operation.
Individuals who might like to make use of their Media and Communications experience, or Minute taking, or who have a knowledge of Fuel Poverty and Energy Efficiency, would be particularly welcome, as would aspiring “officers”.
In addition, we are always on the look out for those volunteers that can help at our events – Mini bus drivers, Event Stewards, Event Organisers, Digital Champions ….
If you think you can help please visit the Volunteer section of the website for more details.
MSOPC now has an online donation facility. Please see our donation page.
Are you a carer? If you are aged 50+ there’s a good chance you could be.
6.5 million people in the UK are – 1.3 million of these are aged 65+ and 1 in 5 people (2 million) are aged 50-64.
Carers provide unpaid care by looking after an ill, older or disabled family member, friend or partner. It could be a few hours a week or round the clock, in your own home, round the corner or many miles away.
Not surprisingly, given the age of many carers, MSOPC is keen to recognise the massive contribution carers make to society and help carers realise that’s what they are – so they can get all the help and support they need to carry on with their valuable role. Members of the MSOPC Management Committee have been out this week – Carer’s week – in order to do this.
The information given out included Top Tips for Carers. A copy of this can be viewed below by clicking on the blue link.
If you need help with accessing the internet, sending emails, shopping on line, storing photos or anything like this on your computer, smartphone or tablet why not pop in for free advice and guidance?
The Computer Help Desk is held at the Spire Cafe on Thursdays 11.00 to 13.00 and is staffed by individual volunteers with the IT expertise who have been vetted and approved to become Digital Champions.

Over the next ten months, the Sussex Elders’ Commission will be holding their “Big Conversation” with family, friends and peers to hear older residents’ ideas and concerns about policing, crime and community safety.
The Sussex Elders’ Commission is an opportunity for older residents to support, challenge and inform the work of the Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner, Katy Bourne. A full report of the Elders’ Commission will be delivered in March 2016 and will include recommendations and potential solutions to address issues such as financial abuse and coercion and older peoples’ fear of crime.
Commission members have told us that they are aware of eight key areas of concern for older residents. These are:
- Financial Abuse
- Fear of Crime
- Nuisance calls and scams
- Local policing
- Cyber crime
- Anti-social behavior
- Road Safety.
